North: Saints must fight for Champions Cup spot

George North says that Saints will have to “fight” for the Champions Cup when they travel to Kingsholm to play Gloucester on Saturday.

Speaking to SaintsTV, the winger said: “We’ve got a lot of tradition in Europe.

“We didn’t make the top four but now we’ve got to fight for the top six. When we go down to Gloucester we’ve got to win to stay afloat.”

With so much to play for, and Gloucester still in contention for a Champions Cup place next season too, North is under no illusions of the challenge ahead: “We always know it’s a difficult place to go.

“The Shed and the fans are brilliant down there so it will be interesting to see what happens.

“It’s a game that we know we can win if we go down there and play our best rugby.”

Looking back on the past season, North describes how it has been a mixture of ups and downs, but says that all eyes are on Saturday and preparing for the season to come: “We can beat the best of Europe out here,” said North.

“We’ve shown glimpses of some brilliant rugby. We’ve also shown some rugby that we’re not too proud of but we’ve got to focus now for Saturday and for next season as well.”
