Pacy Wanderers fly past RAF

The RAF started well and took the lead through Phil Thomas' penalty after aggression at the breakdown paid dividends.

But when the Wanderers got their hands on the ball they would prove deadly, and a quickfire pair of scores both came from inside their own half. First time up, JSA wing Tom Collins - who recently signed a full-time contract for next season - provided a scorching finish from 40 metres and the 17-year-old made the final break and offload for Anders Mogensen's first just two minutes later - skipper Greig Tonks converting both.

On the opposite wing Mogensen cantered home again in the 27th minute, Ethan Waller having earlier made telling inroads in the RAF defence. The forwards were winning plenty of turnover ball and after one such instance the backline hot-potatoed the ball wide to Charlie Sadler, who would add to his 50 metre effort with a second before the break.

There was no letting up as the teams switched ends either, scrum-half Alex Day producing a stunning break to lay on Sam Farmer's try and the forwards winning a penalty try at the very next scrum.

The visitors rallied and almost produced a try of their own, Thomas' step and run to the line only halted for an off the ball obstruction on Tom Hicks and after a spell of pressure on the Wanderers scrum, Tommy Bullough's weaving break off the back of turnover eventually allowed Danny Hobbs to power over from the 22.

Replacement Bullough almost turned provider again but while a fine cover tackle denied Collins a second, Bullough would take advantage himself, crashing under the sticks from the resulting 5 metre scrum. Playing in the centres he was involved again, pinging the ball wide to Collins whose second assist of the afternoon sent Darrell Dyer beneath the posts.

The RAF again powered into Wanderers territory but with passes agonisingly failing to go to hand, a try their endeavour deserved was not forthcoming and the game ended without further score.
