February was a resurgent month for the Saints and one epitomised by the performances of the three players nominated for the Steffans Player of the Month.
The hat-trick of wins catapulted them back into an increasingly tight race for the top four with backs and forwards alike functioning superbly at times.
A man who played a big role in kick-starting that momentum was Luther Burrell, the centre scoring one and playing a hand in each of the Saints’ other two tries in the dramatic month opening win at Harlequins. No back in black, green and gold made more carries (47), metres (252) or passed more defenders (13) with ball in hand, while Burrell also threw nine offloads into the mix.
He and the rest of the team have certainly benefitted from an upping of the tempo and one of the key protagonists in that pace of play has been Lee Dickson. As well as a heightened energy, the Saints captain has also contributed four important tries to the cause, including a contender for try of the season against London Irish – a game from which he took home the man of the match champagne.
Completing the trio is Tom Wood, whose normal service has been resumed since a return from injury. Alongside partner in crime Jamie Gibson, the flanker has racked up the tackles (42) and carries (27), also missing just 10 minutes of action across the four games. His lung busting break against Irish was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the month and led to the Premiership Try of the Week for Dickson.
