Rugby Festival to take over Northampton town centre on LV= Cup Final weekend

There will be a wide range of activities for all the family to get involved with, giving young and old alike the chance to try their hand at the skills needed for rugby. It will also be an opportunity to find out more about Northampton Saints’ community programmes that use the sport to positively affect the lives of thousands of young people across Northamptonshire each year.

Activities on the day will include interactive games, RFU rugby skills sessions and a Treasure Hunt that will involve local businesses in the town centre. Fans will be able to have their photo taken with the LV= Cup as well as the Premiership and European Challenge Cup trophies in the Northampton Museum, which will also be hosting a special exhibition celebrating the club’s winning cup finals.

Northamptonshire schools will also be contributing to a special mural celebrating rugby in the town that will be displayed in the Market Square throughout the day.

More details will be announced at a later date and Saints chief executive Allan Robson says that the Festival will be a chance for the club and community to celebrate the LV= Cup Final together.

“Hosting a cup final is something to be celebrated, and the Rugby Festival will give the whole town the opportunity to enjoy the entire weekend,” he said. “Rugby is more than just what happens on the pitch on match day; we do extensive work in the community and this will be a chance for us to showcase those projects, and supporters will be able to try their hand at the sport as well.

“We want to involve the community as well, which is why we are working with schools in the area to decorate the Market Square with a special mural, and use the Treasure Hunt to encourage footfall in local businesses in the town centre.

“It promises to be a memorable day, and the perfect way to set the scene for the LV= Cup Final the following afternoon.”

Claire Jeromson, Head of Sponsorship at LV= said: “We’re excited to be bringing the Rugby Festival to Northampton ahead of this year’s LV= Cup Final at Franklin’s Gardens. For the past few seasons we’ve championed the next generation of players and all those who make the game what it is. This year’s Rugby Festival will be another brilliant occasion to do this and we’re looking forward to celebrating with the #rugbyfamily.”

Northampton Borough Council is working closely with the Saints in putting together a special event, and Leader David Mackintosh said: “Hosting the LV= Cup final is a huge honour for our town.

“Northampton is a town that loves Rugby, so we are inviting all rugby lovers to share our passion for the game and join us for a weekend of entertainment and events.

“There will be something for everyone, whatever age you are or team you support, the weekend will be a chance to share our love of Rugby. The festival will be a chance for supporters to wear the colours ahead of what is already shaping up to be an exciting final at Franklin’s Gardens.”
