Representing the Saints, they were among 323 children from around the country who descended on the hallowed turf to set the new Guinness World Record®, shortly before the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final.
The equation was created in celebration of a great year for learning maths with Aviva's Tackling Numbers programme.
Aviva Tackling Numbers uses physical number-based touch rugby games integrated with interactive classroom maths lessons to make learning about numbers fun, exciting and rewarding. Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs regularly visit their local schools to show how fun maths can really be.
Each young participant joined in to form a gigantic line on the pitch, holding a card with a number or symbol on it, to form the giant equation. An adjudicator from Guinness World Records® was present to make the record official. Aviva Ambassador Austin Healey was also on the pitch to oversee the attempt before Aviva was presented with a certificate on the pitch at half-time to acknowledge the success.
Heather Smith, Marketing Director at Aviva, said: "Aviva is a proud sponsor of Premiership Rugby, so what better place to celebrate such a successful year with Aviva Tackling Numbers by involving 323 children from across the country in a maths-related Guinness World Records® title attempt. This event showcases that the basis of Aviva Tackling Numbers is all about having fun whilst learning.”
Aviva Tackling Numbers is an innovative and engaging programme for Key Stage 2 children.
