Saints-bound duo make Lions history

Each scored tries as the third and deciding Test went emphatically in the Lions' favour, prop Corbisiero blasting over inside two minutes and standout tourist North finishing the try of the game to kill off any lingering Wallaby hopes of a comeback.

It was a score North and Corbisiero celebrated together, the latter charging towards the Welshman on the Sydney turf shouting 'Northampton Saints!' at his new team mate.

As well as his five point contribution, Corbisiero was part of one of the all-time great scrummaging performances and was understandably elated with the 41-16 result and a series win.

"It is the best day of my life and I'm just grateful to be able to achieve something like that," he told the Telegraph. "At the moment, I am just taking it all in. I am absolutely loving it. It has been a tough year and this is the perfect way to end it."

"This was our day. Alun Wyn [Jones] said it was an opportunity to wear the shirt forever and achieve something, or never wear it.

"There is no tomorrow as a Lion, there is no next year, it may never happen again for you, and that was the mentality we had. A lot of us might not be here in four years' time. Who knows what is going to happen? We took our opportunities. Full credit to Australia, they fought their way back into it. It was a tough-fought game, it was intense with battle all over the field, and we just nudged it.

"It has only just started to sink in what we have actually achieved. At the time you are just focusing on it being another game and seeing it through and once that final whistle went you think: 'Wow, we've done this.'

"A Lions tour is something really special, and I feel so privileged to be able to have experienced it and to come out with a winning series. It's a dream come true."

The next time Corbisiero and North will be in competitive action will be in black, green and gold at Franklin's Gardens as the Aviva Premiership Rugby season gets underway with the visit of Exeter on Saturday, September 7th.
