The Samoan scrum-half was one of the hottest properties in European rugby when the Saints captured his signature and arriving in Northampton, he explained his choice in a first interview with the club.
"I got to look around a few clubs but I really liked the setup they have here," Fotuali'i told SaintsTV. "Being here for the first week has confirmed the decision I made.
"I also like the brand of rugby they play and I thought I'd try out the Premiership and see what it's all about - it definitely looks tough! That and the Heineken Cup attracted me and the chance of progressing to quarter finals and semi-finals is something that excites me."
Saints fans will no doubt have been equally excited by Fotuali'i's cameo for the Barbarians in Hong Kong. The man Will Greenwood declared as 'the best scrum-half' in the world, however, was a little more modest about his stunning score against the Lions.
"It was a big honour to be invited to play for the Barbarians and it was a pleasure to get out there with some quality players from around the world.
"I was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time really [for the try] but it was great to score and a once in a lifetime opportunity to play against the Lions."
