Saints staying grounded says Ma’afu

The prop was keen to play down the bonus point performance and look ahead to the Reading trip, insisting there are still improvements to be made.

“We’re confident but focused,” the tight-head said. “We really enjoyed Saturday and a big win against a good team, but we’re putting that behind us and looking forward to another big week.

“Obviously we look at the game and want to take the good things forward, but we also look a lot at the things we need to improve and work hard on them.

“We have to try and not get complacent in our preparations. We’re playing a different team but we have to do everything the same and be up for another big game. You have to respect every opponent.”

As well as scoring six tries, the Saints were utterly dominant up front against Sarries, but Wallaby Ma’afu isn’t anticipating an easy ride this weekend, particularly given the Exiles’ impressive home record.

“I’m expecting a big battle up front, like we get every week, whether it’s Saracens, Leicester or this week London Irish.

“It’s always tough going away from home in this league and I’ve heard they’ve only lost once at home in 2013. That says a lot about them as a side so it will be tough for use. We’ve got to be focused on going there and working really hard for the win.”
