Saints Supporters Club continue generous support of Academy

The Saints Supporters Club (SSC) has maintained its much-valued support of the Northampton Saints Academy at Franklin’s Gardens with yet another generous donation.

The SSC – which has been in existence for over 80 years – is more commonly known for providing transport to away matches for Saints’ supporters, but in the last five years the group has taken on the challenge of supporting the Saints Junior Academy; a feat it now donates all of its profits towards.

And last weekend as Saints faced Clermont Auvergne at Franklin's Gardens, the SSC presented academy manager Simon Sinclair and academy head coach Mark Hopley with a generous cheque for £3,000 to use towards supporting the Academy's young players in the Club environment, providing important bursaries towards such necessities as specialist diets, coaching or travel.

SSC chair, David Lowrence, says the supporter group are proud to keep the valuable relationship going.

“In the last five years we’ve made it our mission to support the Saints Junior Academy and we’re very happy to be able to continue this,” Lowrence commented.

“The Academy set-up is the seed corn for the Club’s home-grown players who progress through the Academy to play for Saints. Our members are committed to helping those young players develop and we hope that our donations have, and will continue to, go some way towards that.

“The Saints Supporters Club are very much looking forward to being able to continue to contribute to the young players who give so much value to, and gain so much from, their membership of the Academy.”
