Northampton Saints received a special training ground visit from the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 trophy ahead of the competition’s semi-final in Milton Keynes this week.
Germany takes on France on Wednesday evening in the final four, with several members of Northampton’s senior squad heading to Stadium MK to support the event.
Overseen by director of rugby Phil Dowson, Saints’ preparations for the 2022/23 campaign are underway at Northampton School for Boys, and the Men in Black, Green and Gold took a quick break from training on Monday as the gleaming piece of silverware passed through the town.
“All the players were really excited to see the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 trophy in person this afternoon,” said Dowson.
“The tournament has been fantastic so far, and it’s brilliant to have a huge Semi-Final match happening just down the road.”Phil Dowson, Director of Rugby
“The atmosphere at Stadium MK is going to be electric and a lot of the Northampton Saints squad will be down in Milton Keynes showing our support – we’ve got our tickets, so go and get yours!”
Northampton Saints wing Tom Collins added: “Everywhere you go at the moment, people are talking about the tournament and that enthusiasm is infectious.
“Having the trophy with us today at training really brings home just how special it is, and it’s certainly inspiring for us as we look ahead to next season and hopefully winning some silverware of our own.
“I’m looking forward to heading to Stadium MK on Wednesday evening and being a part of the Semi-Final, it’s going to be a great occasion.”
On July 26 England took on Sweden in Sheffield for the first of the Semi-Finals, with England securing their place in the Final with a 4-0 win. Today Germany take on France at Stadium MK, where fans will be able to enjoy live music and entertainment, face painting, table football and interactive workshops at the Milton Keynes Fan Party taking place at Station Square from 12pm-8pm.
