Northampton Saints hooker Sam Matavesi has been named Travis Perkins Player of the Month for February, after claiming 45% of the supporter vote.
The Flying Fijian edged out fellow nominees Piers Francis, Matt Proctor and David Ribbans to the Club's monthly award, with his impressive performances winning over Saints supporters as the side secured victories on the road at Wasps and Exeter Chiefs before narrowly losing out to Bath on the last day of the month.
Not only did Matavesi help Saints propel themselves up the Gallagher Premiership table, but he saw Northampton's set piece to a 94% success rate at lineout time and a whopping 16 scrum penalties from the three games. And on a personal level, the 29-year-old's stats spoke for themselves; Matavesi made some 24 carries throughout the month, a total of 43 tackles – including 22 against Exeter – and scored his first points in Black, Green and Gold against Wasps.
Saints and Travis Perkins have joined forces this season to offer supporters the chance to win fantastic prizes, while rewarding Northampton’s players for their stellar performances throughout the campaign.
This month’s winner was Michael Booth, who was selected at random out of over 500 supporters who voted to win £50 worth of Saints Store vouchers.
