SARACENS 17 SAINTS 36 King acclaims team try finisher

After scoring four tries in the first half, Saints conceded a score to Saracens soon after the break, a try that brought the hosts to within touching distance on the scoreboard. But this prompted Saints to put together a superb spell of possession that was rewarded when Jamie Gibson crashed over from close range to take his side out of reach for the rest of the game.

“It was a great team try,” King said. “It started with Howard Packman’s counter-attack up the middle, and after that was controlled by the half-backs. We went through 10-12 phases and I thought we took it well.”

It may have only been a pre-season friendly, but after an extended off-season brought about by Rugby World Cup 2015 King said that it was good to have the players lace up their boots and get into action on the field.

“It’s great to get a game,” he added. “The boys have worked really hard for 12, 13 weeks now and the way we were training it was important we got a run-out.

“I thought it was all pretty good, the way it went. We had 31 guys involved, loads of tries, loads to work on as well, but it was a really positive statement from everyone involved.”
