stadiummk – a home for Aviva Premiership drama

The Saints are heading back to stadiummk on April 16th for the Aviva Premiership Round 20 home clash with Saracens. And if previous matches at the venue are anything to go by then supporters will be in for a memorable afternoon!

The Saints and Saracens have met twice at stadiummk, with honours even at one win apiece.

In April 2015, in front of a then-venue attendance record crowd in excess of 27,000 that included HRH The Princess Royal, the Saints fought back from conceding two early tries to secure a 25-20 win over Saracens. Samu Manoa scored the Saints’ try, but it was Stephen Myler’s accuracy from the tee which proved the difference, the fly half capitalising on Saracens’ poor discipline to land half-a-dozen penalties and claim the man of the match honours in the process.

Back in December 2012 the teams had another tight encounter which went down to the final kick of the afternoon. Again Saracens scored early, John Smit going over for a try. Phil Dowson replied later in the first half, and Myler exchanged penalties with Charlie Hodgson at regular intervals. Myler then had the chance to snatch a win as time expired with a long-range shot at the uprights, only to see his effort come back off the crossbar. Saracens kicked the ball dead to bring the curtain down on a 17-16 win.

The clashes with the Men in Black have been packed full of drama, and this Easter’s encounter has the potential for more, with a rejuvenated Saints having their sights on the top end of the table and Saracens having their own fight as to who will top the league come the end of the regular season.
