Tough first bow for Lawes in Lions red

Travis PerkinsSponsored by Travis Perkins

The British and Irish Lions fall to The Blues in the second game of their New Zealand tour as Courtney Lawes makes his debut in the red jersey.

Despite Lawes' hard-hitting efforts, which received a "that's a Courtney Lawes special" cry from commentator Stuart Barnes, the Lions trailed for most of the game and it was a late Ihaia West score that sealed the deal for The Blues, the final score 22-16 the way of the hosts.

With preparations well underway for their first Test match against New Zealand on June 24th, this difficult defeat will come as a knock but there will be no time to rest on their laurels for Lawes and rest of the Lions squad, including fellow Saints George North, as they immediately look ahead to the challenge of the Crusaders on Saturday, June 10th.
