Voting for the first DPD Player of the Month is now open, with Northampton Saints Supporters able to decide who they believe made the biggest contribution on the pitch through the first month of the 2026/27 season.
The competition will remain open until Wednesday 7 October, when the winning player will be announced by Northampton Saints and DPD.
Through the new season, DPD will be offering one lucky supporter who votes for the winning player the chance to win a Saints shirt signed by the whole 26/27 squad – with the winner selected at random after the voting closes.
Saints kicked off their new season in the PREM Rugby Cup – losing out to Saracens (96-42) in the opening round and then Harlequins (29-14) on the road in Round 2.
A first run out of the season saw Phil Dowson’s men take on Georgian side Black Lion in a friendly clash that ended 93-10 in Saints’ favour, before Northampton began their Gallagher PREM title-defence in earnest – scoring nine tries as they downed Newcastle Red Bulls 59-26 in Round 1.
With those clashes in mind, Saints’ coaches have selected four nominees for the monthly award: Cleopas Kundiona, James Pater, Ed Prowse and Josh Taylor.
Featuring against both Quins and Red Bulls, Kundiona kicked off his 2026/27 season with gusto – helping Northampton to a 100% scrum rate across the month, while also making eight carries and 22 tackles across his two outings in September.
The only back in our line-up, Pater enjoyed an impressive first month of the term in Black, Green and Gold. The fullback made some 220 metres with the ball in hand, making 100 of those against Quins from just 15 carries that game – while also crossing the whitewash four times, including a memorable hat-trick against Newcastle in Round 1 of the PREM.
Meanwhile, Prowse’s physicality was what shone for the second row in September. He not only hit the most tackles of any Saints across his two outings against Quins and Red Bulls, but also made 48 metres from 18 carries with the ball in hand.
Back rower Taylor announced himself to Saints supporters in strong fashion, debuting against Saracens to become Saint #2133 and marking the occasion with a try. Like Pater, Taylor featured in all three of Northampton’s competitive outings in September, making 25 carries and 111 metres while also completing 24 tackles in defence.
