It might have proved the Saints’ toughest month this season so far, but victories over Newcastle and Ospreys kept them top of the Aviva Premiership and secured a Champions Cup quarter final respectively.
One thing that remained a constant on the field was Calum Clark’s astounding workrate. In a month that ended with the flanker being named in England’s Six Nations squad, Clark stacked up another 57 tackles in his four appearances, including 23 at 100% when Racing Metro visited the Gardens.
The Saints’ leading turnover winner, he has pinched opposition ball 20 times in the Premiership and Europe. His tallies in each competition are third and second overall for the season so far.
On the subject of hard work, Sam Dickinson earns his first nomination of 2014/15 for a lung-busting January effort.
One of only two men to play all 320 minutes in the Aviva Premiership and Champions Cup, his 41 carries, 32 tackles and man of the match performance at Ospreys make him a more than worthy inclusion, even before you consider the fact that he made all four appearances in the less familiar position of the second row.
Last month’s winner Ken Pisi is the final name on the list and aiming to become the first player to scoop back to back TW Steel watches having produced another fine personal month in black, green and gold.
His ever-threatening self in attack, the Samoan wing passed 14 defenders across 306 metres with ball in hand, while one tackle missed over four appearances showed a solid defensive month, too.
