WANDERERS 37 NEWCASTLE 7 Five in five for the Wandies

Travis PerkinsSponsored by Travis Perkins

The Wanderers secured their fifth bonus-point win of the season with a solid display against Newcastle Falcons.

The Wandies started brilliantly with a try inside the first three minutes after George Furbank’s punt was collected by Ken Pisi for the score.

Newcastle were tested again instantly, with some wonderful footwork from Rory Hutchinson keeping the Falcons trapped in their own 22.

The away side responded well though and managed to make their way to the other end of the park, but a well-worked lineout got the Wandies out of trouble.

Amping up the pressure soon paid off for the defending title holders, Stephen Myler converting a penalty to take the Wanderers 10-0 up after half an hour.

An overshot Falcons lineout then gifted the Wanderers their second try of the evening. Ben Nutley sidestepped his way through the Newcastle defence and dashed for the line to close the first half.

Newcastle came out of half time with renewed intensity and quieted the Wanderers attack for a time, getting their only points of the evening as Ben Sowrey edged over the line.

The Wanderers responded moments later though, Furbank intercepted a loose Falcons pass and left them in his wake as he completed a 60 metre dash for line.

Northampton collected their bonus-point when Rory Hutchinson dashed through the defence to collect the pass from Ben Nutley for the fourth try of the evening.

Coming close to a fifth try, the Wanderers looked comfortably in front as the game came to a close, taking their fifth consecutive Premiership Rugby A League bonus point win.

The Wanderers next fixture sees them welcome Sale Jets to the Gardens at the end of November.
