The Saints forward starts in the back row at Twickenham and with all the hard work done, he is now hoping to see it in action on the field.
“I feel ready,” he commented. “We’ve put in a lot of hard work and I just hope that shows tonight. That’s where the anxiety comes from – knowing that there’s nothing more you can do now – you’ve just got let it build and hope that it all goes to plan.”
Up against a Fijian side packed with individual talent, Wood says that England know what threats to expect and that it is now just a case of stopping them.
“I’ve heard a lot about how they want to come here and play and their particular style, so we’ve got to not let that happen. We’ve seen how dangerous they can be, looked at a lot of the individual threats they have and we have to manage that as a team.
“We’ve got to prepare for worst case scenario – that Fiji are on top of their game and making everything stick – and make sure that we raise our intensity enough to force them into errors.”
England versus Fiji is an 8pm kick off at HQ and is being shown live on ITV.
