Harrison looking forward to challenge of Clermont

Travis PerkinsSponsored by Travis Perkins

After opening their European Champions Cup account with a difficult loss to Saracens, Saints head over the Channel to take on current Top 14 champions Clermont Auvergne.

Teimana Harrison said that though the loss to Saracens was incredibly tough to take, the squad are working hard to right their wrongs this weekend.

"It's difficult to watch back," Harrison commented about last Sunday's game.

"All the mistakes that we made and how easily rectified they are. Just simple things like ball handling, we didn't look after the ball enough.

"They were always on top of us and that makes rugby very hard to play. It was very frustrating but there are a lot of points that we can learn from and take into this weekend. Everything's fixable."

But Harrison was quick to look ahead to the coming game and the trip to Clermont,  saying that though there is another tough challenge in store, the side are looking forward to it.

"Clermont are a very, very tough team, especially at home. Reviewing them this week, they've got dangerous ball carriers everywhere, they've got dangerous defenders.

"We've got our work cut out for us but the boys are looking forward to the challenge. We're wanting to bounce back and if we're going to have any hope of proceeding on in this tournament, we have to get a win this weekend.

"We go into this weekend full on; we need to be confrontational, we need to win the battles. It's all now down to physicality. If we stop their big, ball carriers getting through then we're in for a good day.

"We need to be firing on all cylinders, we need to match their physicality and go up and above it. The boys need to be on top form this weekend."

After their trip to Clermont, Saints return to Franklin's Gardens and the Aviva Premiership, where they currently sit in third place, to take on Wasps.

Tickets for that game are on sale now from £32 (adults) and £14 (under-16s) at bit.ly/SAI-WAS-201718

Landmark for Lawes in Clermont

Travis PerkinsSponsored by Travis Perkins

Exactly a decade after his debut in black, green and gold, Courtney Lawes will make his 200th appearance for the Saints when they take on Clermont Auvergne in the Champions Cup this Saturday afternoon (16:15 local).

Having progressed through the Academy at Franklin’s Gardens, the hometown forward has been a lynchpin during one of the club’s most successful eras.

Also an England regular, Lawes’ 200 at Stade Marcel Michelin is another significant individual achievement in a 2017 that has already encompassed a first tour with the Lions and more recently the Premiership’s Player of the Month award for September.

The game also sees in half century milestones for Harry Mallinder (50 Saints appearances) and Ben Foden (50 Champions Cup appearances), with both earning themselves a cap for their respective achievements.

Elsewhere, Jamal Ford-Robinson makes his first start for the Saints on the tight-head, one of a number of changes to the starting XV.

Api Ratuniyarawa, Christian Day and Tom Wood also join the pack, while in behind Harry Mallinder, Nafi Tuitavake, Tom Collins and Nic Groom start in the backs.

Mitch Eadie (ankle), Rob Horne (calf), Lewis Ludlam (illness) and George North (knee) are unavailable for selection.
