Beesley: Being a Saint is a dream come true

New Saints signing Matt Beesley has said that being offered a professional contract at the club is a “dream come true”.

Beesley joins the Saints having played National League 1 rugby for Wharfedale in North Yorkshire for the past two years and had a trial with the club towards the end of last season.

“It’s a massive change from what I’m used to coming from a part time environment,” said Beesley, during the start of pre-season. “I’m thoroughly enjoying it but definitely getting put through my paces!”

“Obviously for me, it’s a dream come true. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I’d be anywhere like this as a former part time player. I’m just relishing the opportunity to even train with these guys.”

During his time with the club at the end of last season, Beesley played for the Wanderers and also took part in the Mobbs Memorial Match.

“Playing for the Wanderers was fantastic experience. Playing in the ‘A’ League against some first teamers and young guys like myself was a fantastic experience and one I’m grateful for.”

Now that Beesley has arrived at Saints as a full time player, he says he is most looking forward to working alongside his fellow props to help develop his game further, as well as the hard working attitude of everyone at club.

“I’d probably say learning is probably the biggest one (I’m looking forward to). Learning from the props here and then just the ethos of the whole place; head down and graft, graft, graft.

“It’s a struggle but hopefully I can get through it and hopefully take in all the knowledge that I can and be the best I can be.”
