Day, McMillan take home monthly awards for December

Day beat off Stephen Myler and Jamie Elliott in a public vote to earn himself a TW Steel watch, which will be presented to him at Steffans Northampton at 3pm on Tuesday, January 14th.

The 30-year-old second rower has been one of the Saints’ most consistent performers this season, running the Aviva Premiership’s most efficient lineout and earning a place on the Steffans Player of the Month short-list three times.

Twenty-six-year-old McMillan has been named as the TW Steel Clubman of the Month in recognition of his ongoing hard work on behalf of a wide variety of charities and causes. The hooker has raised thousands of pounds on behalf of Help for Heroes, Leukaemia Research, Youth Cafes and youth groups, as well provided funding and support for individual families.

He has also put considerable time into raising funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities, whose Bristol House provided McMillan and his wife with invaluable support and accommodation two years ago while their newly-born daughter Frankie was in hospital being treated for gastroschisis, a rare condition which affects one in 10,000 children. Frankie recovered and had her second birthday over the Christmas holidays.

Director of rugby Jim Mallinder says that McMillan’s story is inspirational and makes him a worthy Clubman of the Month.

“Ross is as solid a man as you could ever hope to meet,” he said. “This is typified not by how much charity work he does, but by how he does it. Ross never looks for the limelight; he keeps all his work and fundraising activities quiet, and gets on with them behind the scenes.

“This is driven by his experiences with his daughter, which have obviously influenced Ross’s attitude to life as well as his family.

“He is wholeheartedly committed to the club, putting everything into whatever he does at Franklin’s Gardens, whether it is playing for the first team or Wanderers, training during the week or as a travelling reserve, which is always a difficult job.

“Ross certainly deserves his Clubman of the Month award.”

The club also announced that Sam Kerin, who was one of the hundreds and hundreds of supporters who cast their vote in November, has won the £50 voucher for Steffans Northampton.
