Saints were in charge for long periods in South Wales, George Pisi twice and James Wilson scoring the tries that put the visitors in control, only for Dragons to mount a late charge and steal the win.
“It was a tough night,” the flanker told SaintsTV. “It was raining constantly, the pitch was really small and they were a pretty physical side.
“I think we controlled the game for 55, 60 minutes but credit to Dragons. They exited their half well and then made the most of a couple of bounces of the ball.
“We definitely take plenty forward though. We worked really hard - a lot of mauling, scrumming and kick chasing - so we’ll take a lot from that and it will do a lot of good for our conditioning moving on to Gloucester next week.”
The season proper opens with that clash against the Cherry and Whites and with the Saints back at home!
