Forty teams competed in March's four regional tournaments, with the winners and runners-up from Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk making their way to Franklin's Gardens to compete for the overall crown.

The eight finalists will represent Northampton School for Boys and Winchester House (both Northants), The Perse School and Swavesey Village College (both Cambridgeshire), RGS Colchester and Ipswich's St Joseph's College (both Suffolk) and Robert Bloomfield Middle School and Harrold Priory Middle School (both Bedfordshire).

The action gets underway at 3pm, and score updates and photos will be posted on the Elite Insurance Sevens Series Facebook page throughout the afternoon.

The Elite Insurance Sevens Series has given Under-13s school and club teams from across the East of England the opportunity to take their own first steps along the Road to Rio, via Franklin's Gardens.

As part of the Series schools were able to receive coaching from the Saints community team for free, along with Sevens Series t-shirts and the opportunity to send staff to complementary 'Coach the Coaches' sessions.

The inaugural tournament, unique among the 12 Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs, has been well received by the competing schools.

"We had a wonderful time and coming away with medals was the icing on the cake ... Great opportunity for the lads to play at such a level ... They were shattered but loved it. Many thanks again."

Nick - Bungay High School

"My students loved the event! It was good for us to play against some of the private schools and 'strong' comprehensive schools. It was also great to play so many games in an afternoon. I would definitely attend another event if invited and we gained a great deal from the day. The officials and Saints staff were all very approachable and helpful and all of the boys have been talking about their t-shirt and 'ball' they received from yourself and Tom - they are also gutted that they didn't ask him for his autograph!"

Luke - Farlingaye High School

"Just wanted to say thank you for yesterday's tournament - our boys had a great time and were really thrilled to win the Plate competition ... Thanks again.'

Andy - Hartismere School
