Nearly 8,000 supporters flocked to Franklin’s Gardens last March to support England as they beat Italy 52-7 en route to the 2013 Six Nations title, and it is hoped that with the game being confirmed for a Saturday evening an even larger crowd will get behind the hosts.
This time England will take on Ireland on Saturday, February 22nd, with the game kicking off at 6:15pm.
Saints centre Tom Stephenson scored one of the six tries against Italy, and was also a part of the squad which lifted the IRB Junior World Championships trophy in June. Although the game against Ireland is over two months away he’s already looking forward to the occasion.
“I’m really excited that it’s been announced that we’ll be playing here against Ireland,” he commented. “Last year was a great experience, and hopefully we can repeat that this year.
“Last year’s team was a good group of lads, and this year we’ve got the pressure to try and match what we did last season. But we’re looking forward to it.
“It was a great effort to get so many people to Franklin’s Gardens last season. If we can match it that will be great, but to get even more people would be fantastic!”
