The Green Game is back this weekend as Saints welcome Bath Rugby to a sold-out at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday 25 April (kick‑off: 5.30pm).
Supporters can once again look forward to a matchday that champions sustainability, celebrates positive action, and shows how small changes can make a big difference.
As a signatory of the UN Sports for Climate Action framework, Northampton Saints are committed to reducing their environmental impact and working towards net zero by 2040. The Green Game, however, is all about empowering supporters too – with plenty of opportunities across matchday to get involved, make climate‑positive choices, and help reduce our collective carbon footprint.
Here’s what to expect around the ground on the day…
Make your pledge with Pledgeball
- Supporters will once again be encouraged to pledge a small, practical change to their lifestyle through Pledgeball, helping to drive a collective move towards net zero.
- Fans who make a pledge online HERE will be entered into a random draw to win a signed Saints shirt.
- See how many kilograms of CO₂e have been saved through our supporters’ pledges HERE – with with live updates displayed on the big screen throughout matchday.
- Pledgeball will also be based in the Inclusion Hub, running the ever‑popular passing cage. This weekend they will be using a rugby ball made from recycled materials – the ‘pledge ball’ – and supporters who score 15 points and make a pledge will be entered into a second prize draw to win four tickets to Saints’ next home match against Bristol.
Inspiring the next generation
- In the build‑up to the Green Game, Northampton Saints Foundation will deliver sustainability‑focused education sessions to hundreds of local schoolchildren. From these sessions, several Sustainability Champions will be selected and invited to attend the match with a parent.
- Saints staff will also take part in a local litter pick on Tuesday 21 April, joined by 30 schoolchildren, supporting cleaner local communities and reinforcing the wider Green Game message.
Activities, partners and prizes around the ground
- There’ll be plenty happening throughout the stadium to explore before kick‑off and at half‑time.
- Virgin Active, official Club partner, will be back in the Supporter Village with their popular dead‑hang challenge, alongside giveaways of Kauai juices and wellness shots. Kauai prioritises sustainability through ethical, plant-forward sourcing – boasting under 1% food waste and 100% recyclable takeaway packaging. They utilise energy-efficient induction hobs, offer reusable cups, and emphasise responsibly sourced, whole ingredients to support both health and environmental goals.
- Local food bank TowFood will host a fruit‑machine‑style game in the Inclusion Hub. Supporters can donate £1 to play, with prizes on offer. TowFood works with supermarkets, businesses and food surplus providers to reduce food waste and distribute affordable food across the local community.
- The Wildlife Trust will be stationed outside Gate 3, offering information about their work and educational games for children to learn more about local wildlife. Their Badger mascot will also take part in a recycling‑themed race against Saints favourite Bernie the Dog on the pitch at half‑time!
- Saints are hosting a networking event for 20 delegates from sustainability and transport‑focused organisations, using the Green Game as a platform to share ideas and best practice.
Greener Food & Drink options
- Across hospitality areas, official food and catering partner Levy UK will offer carbon‑labelled meals, alongside a seasonal and locally-sourced menu.
- In the Supporter Village under the stretch tent, fans can enjoy free samples of vegan pies (available to buy around the ground) – while a 10% discount on vegetarian food options will be available in the Members Bar, Rodber Bar and South Stand kiosks on the day.
Getting to the Gardens
- Supporters are encouraged to think about their travel choices when heading to all matches at cinch Stadium.
- Stagecoach bus offer Northampton supporters special deals on bus travel across the town on Saints matchdays. Season Ticket Holders can get a return ticket for travel anywhere within the Northampton area for just £5.
- For the Green Game, fans travelling by Stagecoach bus can have their ticket stamped in the Rodber Bar to receive 50% off their first drink.
- Voi e‑scooters will offer the first 10 minutes of usage free on up to two rides on the day using the code SAINTSGREEN – meaning you can get to cinch Stadium and back home again after the game.
- Please use Voi’s designated parking zone at the Weedon Road entrance to the ground, and help keep other areas clear.
Sustainable Shopping
- Our Beanie Bear and Bernie Mascot Toy products, which are made from 100% recycled materials, will be available at 25% off in the Saints Store on the day.
- Supporters can also find Saints player and supporter‑fit jerseys made from Macron’s Eco‑Fabric, certified by the Global Recycled Standard.
Recycle your Saints flags
- Did you get a free Saints flag at one of our earlier fixtures this season? Don’t bin it. Bring it back on Saturday to create a sea of Black, Green and Gold – reusing, not replacing!
Sustainability at every match
Many of Saints’ sustainability measures are already part of every matchday – and the Green Game is a great opportunity to shine a spotlight on them once again:
- All draught beers and soft drinks are served in reusable EcoCups. Please help us by placing these in one of the purple cup bins after use.
- Our digital matchday programme is free to view via Zeeon.
- Water refill points are available around the ground for reusable bottles.
- All bottles sold are made from recycled PET and can be recycled after use.
- All food packaging is recyclable, compostable or biodegradable.
- No disposable plastic cutlery or sauce sachets are used at cinch Stadium.
- Permanent recycling bins, supplied by Grundon, are positioned around the ground to help supporters separate waste easily.
Share your Feedback
After the Green Game, Saints will invite supporters to take part in a short survey, helping the Club understand the impact of the day and identify ways to go even further in future.
With rugby on the pitch and sustainability off it, the Green Game promises a memorable matchday – and a chance for everyone to play their part in building a more sustainable future.
