Teimana Harrison’s standout performances have earned him the votes of Northampton Saints supporters to be named the Steffans Player of the Month for December.
The 23-year-old has burst into the Saints first team over recent weeks, winning plenty of praise from players, coaches and pundits alike for a string of powerful performances in the Aviva Premiership and European Rugby Champions Cup.
Harrison, who scored in last Saturday’s derby trip to Leicester, started all four games in December at either flanker or number eight, and was among the team’s top ball carriers and tacklers, winning a turnover every 35 minutes throughout the season so far. And thanks to Saints supporters he will now be the proud owner of a TW Steel watch, too.
“It’s a big surprise!” he told the Saints podcast. “I was up against two guys who’ve been brilliant.
“It means a lot that it comes from the supporters too. They’re the ones who watch us week in week out, so I’m pretty stoked to get their vote.”
Meanwhile, fellow flanker Calum Clark has been awarded the TW Steel Clubman of the Month award.
Clark spent time in the summer coaching rugby in Sierra Leone and has since re-visited the country to donate a kit collection from the club. In return, the country’s rugby association presented the forward with a hand carved plaque.
More recently, he was also involved in setting up the @NSPlayerCharity Twitter feed and auctions, which has raised thousands of pounds for worthy causes including the #BacZac campaign.
Director of rugby Jim Mallinder says both deserve their recognition.
“Teimana has been outstanding,” he commented. “His talent and commitment has never been in question and he has certainly shown what he is capable of with a sustained run of games.
“It’s also good to see Calum’s work off the field is not going un-noticed. The Saints is a club that takes a great deal of pride in their community work and Calum has contributed a great deal to the two projects, all off his own back.”
Supporter Peter Utting has had his name pulled out of the hat to receive a £50 voucher to spend at Steffans after casting his vote in the poll.
