Junior Saints get good run-out against Gloucester

The Junior Saints have been training at Franklin's Gardens this week, with both rugby skills and conditioning on the agenda. Seven Under-18s also trained with the full-timers on Monday, taking part in their weights session and conditioning games.

The hard work paid off against the Cherry and Whites with a five try to two victory.

The scoring was all one way in the first half with Steve Arroyo-Hoover, Lewis James, Ashley Elvers and Howard Packman all crossing the whitewash.

Trailing 24-0 at the break, Gloucester staged a mini-fightback with two converted tries in the second half. But with a score from George Wacokecoke and a second try from Packman the Saints killed off the contest. Clark Davidson added two conversions to take the final score to Saints 34, Gloucester 14.

"It was a good run-out for the lads," said Academy manager Alan Dickens. "It was a first chance to see the Under-16 lads who have been promoted to the Under-18s in action such as George Wacokecoke, Karl Wilkins, Patrick Marmion, Lewis Ludlam, Dan Lewis and Ed Parkins.

"They all stepped up well to the next level and were helped out by the more senior lads who put in good performances as well."
