In what was the closest voting in the 18-month history of the award, Pisi beat off Mike Haywood and Luther Burrell to earn the TW Steel watch, with the three players’ totals covered by just 20 votes.
The Samoan wing bagged a hat-trick in the home drubbing of Treviso and racked up 287 metres with ball in hand. The 30 carries required for that total also took Pisi past 10 defenders, raising that total to 32 for the season.
December’s performances continued Pisi’s season-long consistency, rewarded in the Autumn by selection in the Samoan teams that played against Italy and England.
Meanwhile Saints’ team chef Rob Dillon has been named the TW Steel Clubman of the Month in recognition of the hard work done throughout the festive season, often in the most unsociable of hours.
Dillon has also been working closely with nutritionist Emma Gardner in putting together healthier and more nutritious meals for the Saints squad throughout the season, and director of rugby Jim Mallinder says that he has been playing an important but unheralded role in the team’s successes and positive culture.
“It is vital that all the players eat healthily so they are in peak condition, and Rob has been working hard with Emma in putting together suitable menus,” he said. “Meal times are also one of the most important social times during the day, and because the players enjoy eating here they spend more time together and creating a positive culture during the week.
“Rob’s job is therefore really important, but it is also something that not very many people outside the club know about, which is why we have chosen to recognise him as the TW Steel Clubman of the Month.
“I’m also very happy for Ken to be named the Steffans Player of the Month, which has rewarded his consistently excellent performances throughout the season, especially in December.”
For over 30 years Steffans has been the pre-eminent jewellers in Northampton. Steffans remains a family-run business, with stores in Northampton town centre and Market Harborough, and a multi-award winning website. Steffans are long-standing supporters of the Saints, providing prizes for the club’s End of Season Awards and great offers to Season Ticket Holders through their membership of the Saints Savers Club.
Meanwhile Dave Griffiths has had his name pulled out of the hat to win a £50 voucher for Steffans Northampton after casting his vote in the poll.
