Franklin’s Gardens is hosting the first cup final of the season on Sunday, March 22nd, 2015, kicking off the biggest year of rugby in the East Midlands.

It is also the first time that the home of the three-time LV= Cup finalists will have held the tournament’s showpiece occasion in four years, when Gloucester overcame Newcastle in March 2011.

Northampton Saints chief executive Allan Robson says that the reaction to the club hosting the LV= Cup final has been very positive.

“We have had a good record in the LV= Cup, but regardless of whether the Saints are involved or not supporters of rugby in the East Midlands know that they will be in for a great day of entertainment,” he said.

“The LV= Cup final has a strong track record of producing memorable finals packed with exciting rugby from some of the best up-and-coming players in England and Wales, and the tournament is already shaping up to be one of the most competitive we can remember.

“We are looking forward to staging the match, but are also working closely with Northampton Borough Council on putting together a weekend of activities and entertainment in a special festival of rugby that will be focused in the town centre and available to all supporters.

“2015 is a big 12 months for rugby in the East Midlands, with the LV= Cup final followed by our own Premiership match against Saracens in Milton Keynes, which in turn is helping prepare stadiumMK to host Rugby World Cup games later in the year.”
