Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder says that his Saints side are looking forward to playing Champions Cup rugby next season after securing their place in the competition with victory over Gloucester on Saturday.

Speaking with SaintsTV after the match at Kingsholm, Mallinder said: “It was all about getting in the Champions Cup.

“We put pressure on ourselves, everybody wanted it; we need to be in it.

“It’s an exciting competition. It’s tough but we’ve done well and played some pretty good sides in the past so we’re going to look forward to it again.

The victory against Gloucester confirmed Saints’ fifth place finish in league, with Mallinder describing how tough it is to play at Kingsholm: “It’s a fantastic experience for a lot of the players.

“It’s a tough place to come and play rugby and the crowd get on your back. I think it probably got to the lads a bit early on; the noise and the disruption.

“Some of the performances today were really good and we’re pleased to get that win.”
