The Saints players returned to Franklin’s Gardens last week to begin their preparations for the forthcoming season and the man in charge of player conditioning, Marc Finney, says his team are “ready” to begin pre-season training.

The players are set to undergo three, three week blocks of training with rest periods either side and Finney says the first of these blocks are vital in terms of setting the tone for the season ahead: “It’s absolutely crucial for us.

“We are excited to get the boys back and get them started again. Last Monday was about welcoming them back to the environment but the work starts from the get-go.”

Finney also said that he has been impressed with what he has seen so far, with both players and staff motivated to make sure that silverware is brought back to Franklin’s Gardens next season.

“We’ve seen some really good responses, the attitude’s been excellent and already we are beginning to build that engine again.

“I think everybody’s got a bit of a buzz again. (We were) bitterly disappointed with last year and it hurts when your season finishes as early as it did and you see other teams going on.

“That’s what we’re about; we want that silverware so we’re about putting that right this time.”

“The attitude is right and we don’t want them to miss any opportunities with the training that we give them because every training session is an opportunity for them to get better. We are excited about it.”
