Scouts led after just three minutes and while that converted try was cancelled out just after the quarter, Olney still trailed 7-10 at the break. Three penalties in 16 second half minutes took them into the lead for the first time though and while Old Scouts would add their second try of the game, the conversion went astray and Olney prevailed by the slimmest of margins.
That tie was preceded by the Oceanic Trophy final for Under-18s, Old Northamptonians putting in an impressive performance to beat Northampton Casuals 31-3.
The local club scene reaches its climax on Wednesday, April 30th with the Alliance Cup final. This year’s final is a repeat of the 2013 match between Old Northamptonians and Towcestrians.
That night saw ONs take home the silverware after a 13-12 thriller, and this year’s clash will continue the rivalry between the two clubs.
Entry costs £5 for adults and £3 for Under-16s, payable on the gate. Tickets are not available in advance.
Fourteen clubs are eligible to enter the Oceanic Cup, Lewis Shield and Alliance Cup, which promotes competition among rugby teams in the Northampton and North Buckinghamshire areas.
