Olver: Sevens allows us to show our skills

Fly half Sam Olver says the Saints are looking forward to playing some competitive rugby at the Singha Sevens having started pre-season training last month.

Olver played for the Saints when the tournament was last held at the Gardens two years ago and believes that it’s a great opportunity for the backs to show their skills.

It’s nice to get a bit of competitive rugby in there having done six weeks of hard graft on the training field and in the gym,” said Olver.

It doesn’t necessarily suit the big heavy forwards but it’s quite nice for us backs to get out there and show our skills!”

Olver also described how he enjoyed the experience of of the Singha Sevens at the Saints two years ago and he hopes a strong crowd will turn out again this year to support the players who take to the field on Friday night.

“It was a really good atmosphere. I was quite young then, two years ago, and it’s a great experience to play in front of that crowd at a young age.

“It would be great to get that sort of crowd out again and give them the sort of experience I had.

It will be carnival time at Franklin’s Gardens on Friday, July 29th as Rio comes to the Singha Premiership Rugby Sevens Series! The Saints take on Saracens, Harlequins and Gloucester in an evening full of entertainment and fun, on and off the pitch. Book your tickets now at www.tinyurl.com/SaintsSevensHeaven.
