Quintet in England training squad ahead of Samoa test

Dylan Hartley, Courtney Lawes and Tom Wood have all been retained by Stuart Lancaster from the squad which narrowly lost to South Africa last Saturday.

They are joined by Calum Clark - who has trained with England throughout the Autumn International series - and Luther Burrell, who played for the Saints last Friday after recovering from his hand injury.

England Head Coach Lancaster said it was a welcome boost to have Burrell back as he seeks to arrest a run of five consecutive defeats.

“We have narrowed the group to give us more focus in training,” he said. “It’s good to have Luther back in camp after recovering from his hand injury and we’ll see how he gets on in training this week.

“As per the EPS agreement we will release players on Tuesday evening to prepare for the Aviva Premiership games at the weekend.”

However Lee Dickson and Stephen Myler will remain at Franklin's Gardens ahead of the Saints' Aviva Premiership trip to Saracens.
