Saints and UON continue to build strong partnership

Rugby fan Ruaraidh Britton has gone from terrace newbie to press bench regular at Franklin’s Gardens thanks to a strong partnership between the Saints and the University of Northampton.

If the sports journalism student’s name seems familiar, it is because he has been writing several of the features and interviews you may have read recently either online or in the matchday programme.

“I went to my first Saints game on my fifth day of being at uni; a win against eventual league winners Exeter under the Friday night lights.

“A year later, I was back for the long-awaited clash with Saracens. But this time I’m on the press bench writing for the club website.

“Since then I’ve covered over 30 matches, interviewed some of the biggest names at the club, and spoken to stars of the sport from around the globe.

“One of the greatest feelings you’ll ever experience is having fans compliment your work in the match day programmes. Knowing over 15,000 Saints fans are reading your words is just an incredible feeling.

“And all this came about thanks to the great link the Saints have with my journalism degree at the University of Northampton.”

There is still time to join this year’s Multimedia Sports Journalism course at the university’s brand-new Waterside campus. Call 01604 214808 to apply now or go to Northampton.ac.uk.
