Saints name youthful squad for Mobbs Memorial Match

Travis PerkinsSponsored by Travis Perkins

Northampton Saints will showcase the vast array of young talent at the Club’s disposal after picking an exciting home-grown side for the Mobbs Memorial Match.

The hosts welcome the British Army to Franklin’s Gardens this evening, kick-off 7.45pm, for the biennial fixture between the two sides.

The match aims to remember Edgar Mobbs and all the former Saints who were killed serving their country, as well as to raise funds for the Mobbs Memorial Trust that supports the development of rugby in the East Midlands.

Of the 24-strong matchday squad, 20 players have come through the Saints Academy system and will have benefited from the contributions that Mobbs’ charity has made locally.

Tom Stephenson will captain a squad that has impressed across the first team, the Wanderers and the Academy sides so far this season, and is joined in the centres by England Under-20 international Fraser Dingwall.

Dingwall is not the only international U20s starlet among Saints’ ranks, with James Grayson lining up at fly-half, Ehren Painter at prop, and Scotland’s Devante Onojaife in the second row – plus Toby Trinder and Fraser Strachan are among the replacements for the men in Black, Green and Gold.

There is also room on the bench for Samson Ma’asi, Joe Wallace, Connor Tupai, and Ollie Sleightholme, all of whom signed on with the Senior Academy at Franklin’s Gardens for next season last month.

Tickets are still available for the Mobbs Memorial Match and are priced at £15 for adults and £5 for juniors, concessions and Armed Forces personnel and veterans – with all proceeds going to support the charitable aims of the Mobbs Memorial Trust.
