Sevens team formed at Saints’ residential camp tackles European challenge

A group of young rugby players who met at Northampton Saints’ world‑leading residential camp have gone on to form their own international Sevens team – and are already making waves on the European stage.

The Legion of Sisters 7s squad, made up entirely of girls who first met for the first time at the Saints and Lightning summer residentials at Stowe School in the U16 category last year, travelled to Portugal last month to compete at the Lisbon 7s.

Despite having never played together before, they impressed in Lisbon winning all three of their day one games against UR7s (21-19), Rugby Mairena (36-0) and Eastern Ontario (30-5).

Although they narrowly missed out on a gold medal, the team’s performance marked an extraordinary debut and showcased the potential of a group brought together by the Saints residential experience.

Rob Weir, a parent of one of the players, said: “The team is made up entirely of girls who met at the camp, and they formed such strong friendships that week that they wanted the opportunity to play together,” he said. “Organising this has been challenging, as none of the parents had met before, and the girls are coming from all across the UK, Holland, and Gibraltar!

“This is exactly what your camps are all about. Empowering friendships and creating experiences that will set these girls up for life. For most of them, this will be their first ever tour, so you can imagine the excitement!”

The story of the Legion of Sisters 7s highlights the unique power of the Saints residentials to build confidence, create lifelong friendships and open doors to unforgettable rugby experiences.

Legion of Sisters 7s are back in action on Friday 13 March when they take part in the UR7s schools festival in Chiswick!

Bookings for the 2026 Saints Residentials are now open, with places available on the 3‑Day Boys Residential, 5‑Day Girls Residential and Legends Weekend. The 5‑Day Boys Residential is already sold out.
