Successful weekend for young England Saints

The main team were in action in Oxford, looking to recover from last weekend's reverse to Italy Under-17s with a good performance against Wales.

But when the visitors racked up a 15-0 lead it looked like England coach Phil Stanlake was not going to get the send-off he wanted. However four tries in the second half put England onto the front foot to record an impressive 32-26 final result.

Centre Rotimi Segun (Northampton School for Boys) and hooker Freddie Davison (Bedford School) both started, with props Henry Peck (Vandyke School) and Garth Spencer (Biddenham Upper School) and fly half Paddy McDuell (Bedford School) all coming off the bench.

Meanwhile six Saints were enjoying unbeaten campaigns at the 2013 Wellington International Festival for either England South or England North.

England North, who included Daniel Bhatti (Bedford Modern) and Tim Cardall (Prince William), won all three of their games against Belgium Under-17, France Under-16 B and Netherlands Under-17.

England South won two of their games - against USA Under-17 and Scotland Under-16 - and drew the other, against France Under-16 A. Four Saints were in this squad - George Furbank (Kimbolton), John Hawkins (Manshead), James Pollard (Bedford Modern) and Alex Moon (Sedbergh).

The Saints Under-17s will be back in action on Saturday, April 27th, with their friendly game against London Wasps (KO 1pm) being part of the 2013 Open Day.
