Summer games good for development, says Stewart

At a soggy Franklin’s Gardens the Under-15s and Under-16s both went down to their counterparts from Worcester in training games this lunchtime.

The Warriors shrugged off the conditions to put in physical and skilful performances, and Stewart says that the Saints youngsters, many of whom were making their first appearances for the club, will now have a better idea of what is expected of them at this level.

“Games like these are great learning experiences for the boys,” he said. “I’m sure that they will gain valuable experience from playing at a high level.

“Quite a few of our lads were playing in black, green and gold for the first time today, and this will give them a clear indication of what it takes to play at the elite level of their age group.

“However they’ve put in a lot of hard work in training throughout the summer, and I’m sure that they will come back stronger from this experience in the future.”

Both age groups return to training on Monday, with the Under-16s taking on the other Northern Academies next weekend.
