The Trilogy Saints Touch League is just around the corner and New Zealand World Cup winner Nehe Milner-Skudder says that touch helped to developed the skills that have turned him into one of the world’s most clinical finishers.
Speaking to England Touch, Milner-Skudder, who scored the opening try in last year’s Rugby World Cup final, described how playing touch as a youngster allowed him to develop the skills that are so fundamental to his game: “I grew up playing a lot of touch.
“I guess that’s where the footwork and agility comes into it. I was a bit cheeky to the older brother growing up so I had to find a way to get away from him too.”
He also described how his size played a role in his ability to beat defenders, a skill that has made him one of the All Blacks’ most dangerous players.
“I’m not being a big fella; you don’t really want to get in the way of some of the big boys!”
So if you are a local club team looking to hone their skills and fitness, or a group at work who want to bond in a sporting environment once a week, then sign up for the Saints Trilogy Touch League!
Following an initial seeding week all teams will take part in a round-robin competition, with teams assigned to play others of a similar standard.
Entry is £150 per team, which works out to be £25 per team, per week – cheaper than a gym!
Touch is a minimal contact version of rugby that is suitable for both men and women to play together – don’t be put off by ‘rugby’! – and is one of the fastest growing participation sports in the country. Teams are six-a-side with rolling subs, with the action short and sharp!
An initial £75 non-refundable deposit is required to book your team’s place, needed no later than Friday, May 20th. For more information about the Trilogy Saints Touch League email Euan Walker in the club’s community team – [email protected]
