Ethan Waller and Tom Wood spent their Wednesday afternoon helping the Saints’ community team deliver the Aviva Tackling Numbers programme at nearby Lumbertubs Primary School.
The Saints’ duo took part in a practical session in glorious Northamptonshire sunshine and prop Waller was full of praise for the innovative delivery of the project.
"It has been a really good day and it is always nice to see firsthand Aviva Tackling Numbers in action,” he told PremiershipRugby.com. “It’s perfect for the kids because they are not just writing numbers down in a book, they are making practical sense of it and hopefully it is a bit more interesting.
"It is massively important that the players help with these community programmes. The amount of support that we receive on game day is unbelievable and it is great to give back some support to those people who back us on the weekend.
"Northampton is such a big rugby town and this helps give back in little ways and gives us a chance to do our bit for the community."
In partnership with Premiership Rugby, #AvivaTacklingNumbers helps seven to nine year olds put foundations in place for better financial skills later in life through the power of rugby.
Aviva Tackling Numbers is delivered in 720 primary schools every year by all 12 Premiership Rugby clubs, and through the programme 40,000 children have been introduced to maths outside the regular classroom environment - with players themselves taking part in some of the lessons.
