Waller ready for Friday night lights against Exeter

After two frustrating losses for Saints, Alex Waller says that even though the men in black, green and gold showed promise and that a lot of positives can be drawn from those two games, it’s the negative elements that they need to work on this week to get the win over Exeter Chiefs on Friday night.

“We’re very frustrated that we didn’t come away with the win last week,” Waller told SaintsTV.

“Certain aspects of the game we could have improved on but I think overall the performance was positive. Its not all doom and gloom but we don’t play this game to lose and it is frustrating when you do after you’ve put everything on the line.

“We want to focus on the positives and we can always look at them but I think because of the team we are, we focus on what we need to work on rather than what we do well at the weekend.

“So although when we look at game as a whole, we can see the positives but we don’t need to fix the positives, we need to fix the negatives so we’re focussing on them more.”

Looking ahead to playing Exeter this Friday night, Waller says that Chiefs will prove another big challenge for Saints and that despite having a tough run of form recently, Exeter will be pushing for another Premiership final this year after narrowly losing out to Saracens at Twickenham last May.

“Premiership Finalists last year says it all really. They’re definitely going to be a contender this year for the top four so it’ll be a massive game this Friday night and one we’re looking forward to.

“In the last couple of weeks we’ve shown glimpses of what we can do when we’re on point so I think we need to make that consistent throughout the 80 minutes and I think it’ll be a really good game.

“Friday Night Lights are always special at the Gardens, it’s always a game the boys look forward to. Playing Exeter, especially on a Friday night, is always a great atmosphere here so we’re really looking forward to it and I think it’s going to be a good game to watch.”
