Five Lightning players selected for Red Roses training camp

Five Loughborough Lightning players have been selected by the Red Roses ahead of their first camp of 2024.

Head coach John Mitchell has included Daisy Hibbert-Jones, Lilli Ives Campion, Sadia Kabeya, Cath O’Donnell and Helena Rowland for the 38-player squad that is meeting at St George’s Park for three days from Monday 22 January.

No. 8 Hibbert-Jones earned her first senior England cap during last autumn’s WXV while Kabeya, who missed out on that tournament due to injury, is included as the flanker bids to add to her 13 caps in the Six Nations and 20-year-old uncapped second row Ives Campion is also included.

Second row O’Donnell is the most experienced of the Lightning players called up with 30 caps, just ahead of versatile back Rowland, who has amassed 28 Red Roses caps.

Mitchell said:  “We are excited to come together for our first camp of 2024 and build on the positive experience of WXV and introduce some new people to what we are about. It is our first opportunity to revisit what we value, update our athletic profiling data of the group and re-focus on where our game is working and where we take it to next.”
