Shred7s, a fitness and weight-management programme, has been launched by Northampton Saints’ Community team in association with Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
With a mandate to help Saints supporters watch their weight over the winter months, Shred7s focusses on weight loss through education on food and diet, as well as encouraging more physical activity in the form of Rugby 7s.
The free-to-attend programme will be hosted by the Club’s fully-qualified coaches, and also places the emphasis on mental health; participants will be given support from the mental health professionals at IAPT Talking Therapies Northants to understand unhealthy thought patterns, and the areas of mental wellbeing which can affect weight management.
The 12-week course is aimed at both men and women, and will begin in January 2022 – funded by Public Health Northampton and their Tier 2 weight-management programme. Up to 45 participants will take part in a weekly 7s touch rugby league, alongside the healthy-eating and exercise sessions.
Due to the programme’s popularity, another cohort will also begin a second 12-week course in April 2022.
Shred7s will target participants with a BMI of 28 and above, however considerations will be given to lower BMIs of 25-28.
