Electric Todaro enjoying ‘unreal journey’ in dream start to PREM season

Northampton Saints winger Edoardo Todaro is enjoying a dream start to his first season in the Gallagher PREM as he looks ahead to a trip to the North East against Newcastle Red Bulls on Friday night (17 October, kick-off: 7:45pm)

The Saints Academy graduate has been ripping up the PREM in his first three appearances, including a brace in his opening game against Exeter Chiefs in Round 1 at cinch Stadium.

Todaro’s start to senior life in the Black, Green and Gold jersey got even better in Derby weekend with a player-of-the-match performance against Leicester Tigers and another try to his tally. And top it all of his performances have earned him his first call-up to the senior Italy squad for the upcoming Quilter Nations Series.

“It’s been an unreal journey so far for me,” Todaro said.

“It’s going pretty fast and pretty well so far. I’ve played across the backline, and I don’t mind where I play as long as I’m on the field.

“The PREM has definitely been a big step up in the physicality and speed at which we play. It’s mental, but I’m enjoying it.”

Todaro is the latest in a long line of success stories of graduates from the Northampton Saints Academy system joining the likes of Henry Pollock, Alex Mitchell, Tommy Freeman and many more.

“I started playing at Under-8s in Milan and moved to England when I was about 14,” Todaro continued.

“I started at Ipswich School on a rugby academic scholarship, and I was lucky to be identified. I’ve always been quite academically focused as well.

“It’s been good to get the reward of the player of the match, but at the end of the day, as long as we win and I know I’ve done my job, I’m happy.

“Everyone has been helping me so much, whether it’s the finer details, it doesn’t matter what, I’m just extremely glad I’ve got those boys next to me helping me out.

“The coaches, both on and off the pitch, have been helping me so much; they give me confidence to go out there and play my game.

“I’ve been working a lot on my high ball game, it’s a part of my game I didn’t train much in the U18s and U20s but now at senior PREM level it’s super important. I want to develop my kicking game as well as we progress through the season and my game as a whole.”
