Elliott up for Land Rover Discovery of the Season

Travis PerkinsSponsored by Travis Perkins

Having come through the famed Franklin’s Gardens Academy setup, the former England Under-20 international has established himself as a key part of Jim Mallinder’s first team squad.

Young player of the season and top try scorer for the Saints in 2012/13, Elliott has crossed six times this season but it is his all-round consistency in both attack and defence that make the 22-year-old one of the side’s unsung heroes.

That said, following a try in last season’s Aviva Premiership semi-final at Saracens Elliott has continued his knack of registering in the big games. He was the man to finish one of the tries of the season at Gloucester and also on hand to run the length of the field as the Saints famously triumphed over Leinster in Dublin.

He’ll certainly have his work cut out to win the award, however, England internationals George Ford and Billy Vunipola also among the nominees.

The winner will be announced at the Aviva Premiership Rugby Awards at the London Hilton, Park Lane on 15 May.

Jamie Elliott – Northampton Saints
George Ford – Bath Rugby

Elliott Stooke – Gloucester Rugby

Billy Vunipola – Saracens

Anthony Watson – Bath Rugby

Owen Williams – Leicester Tigers

The Land Rover Discovery of The Season award is designed to recognise the most impressive young players in the Aviva Premiership Rugby each season and reward them for their outstanding contribution to the competition.

The winner will follow in the footsteps of some special talents; previous winners have included Owen Farrell and Manu Tuilagi with Joe Launchbury claiming the prize last year.

To celebrate the player's achievement, they will have the opportunity to become a Land Rover ambassador, for the 2014/15 season.

The shortlist was compiled by a panel of media professionals – Sonja McLaughlan (BBC 5 Live), Hugh Godwin (Independent), Tom Hamilton (EPSN Scrum.com) along with Mike Hynard (Premiership Rugby's Head of Academies and Development). Paul Morgan (Premiership Rugby's Communications Director) chaired the panel.
