Fisher received two-thirds of the public vote, beating the short-listed duo of Samu Manoa and Ken Pisi. The flanker was an ever-present in the Saints squad during September, scoring his first try on his debut appearance against Gloucester and impressing whenever he pulled on the black, green and gold.
Fisher receives a TW Steel watch as his prize.
Also rewarded this month as the TW Steel Clubman of the Month is Phil Dowson, who was chosen by the Saints’ first team coaches for his leadership example and commitment to the cause, whether chosen in the first team match day squad or not. He receives a bottle of champagne.
Director of rugby Jim Mallinder says that Dowson’s attitude has been exemplary.
“Phil is one of our senior players, and has set a superb example for the rest of the squad throughout September,” he said. “He wants to play every game, but with his pre-season injury and the form of the club’s other back rowers there have been times when he has missed out on selection.
“We know Phil has been disappointed by these decisions, but he has not let his head drop. Instead his own efforts have gone up and he has played some outstanding rugby when the opportunity has come his way.
“More importantly, he has been fully supportive of the player who has been selected, and has also approached his captaincy of the Wanderers in the Aviva ‘A’ League in an excellent manner.
“We’re also delighted for Jon Fisher. Jon had an outstanding September and it is superb to see that recognised by the club’s supporters.”
