One of the country's premier Sevens tournaments, the Bury St Edmunds Sevens included several Aviva Premiership clubs and some top invitational teams. But no one could match the Saints outfit as they saw off all-comers.
Seven tries were put past Esher in an opening 43-7 win, with Tom Collins, Fa'atoina Autagavaia and Teimana Harrison all scoring twice, with Ryan Glynn getting the remaining score. And Autagavaia and Harrison followed this up with a try apiece in the second pool match, a 34-7 victory over the Welsh Charitables, with Cam Dolan, Glenn Dickson and Lewis Hall also going over the whitewash.
The quarter finals saw the Saints come up against Worcester. This contest was harder fought than the pool matches, with the Saints coming out on top 35-21. Collins grabbed two more tries, as did Dolan, with Paul Diggin rounding off the scoring.
It was another all-Aviva Premiership tie in the semi-finals, but once again the Saints showed that they were the team to beat, putting five tries past Sale in a 29-7 win. Dickson this time led the way with a hat trick, with Autagavaia and Collins ensuring that the backs dominated the scoreboard.
The final was against Samurai Barracudas, one of the country's top invitational sides and an outfit who had been the undoing of the Saints in previous tournaments. Dolan - also named the Player of the Tournament - rounded off his day with a brace of tries, with Dickson and Ben Nutley (twice) completing the scoring in a 31-21 win.
