Saints to share knowledge with local coaches

Travis PerkinsSponsored by Travis Perkins

This free course will consist of three sessions before Christmas and three sessions in 2013. Each session will include both an in-depth look at developing the fundamentals of the game and insight from the clubâ00s Performance Department into improving physical preparation and conditioning, nutrition and managing rehabilitation.

The sessions are designed for coaches of both senior and junior clubs and will be based at one of the clubâ00s Elite Player Development Centres â00 Franklinâ00s Gardens (East Midlands) or Stowmarket RFC (Eastern Counties).

School rugby team coaches are also invited to attend as part of their continuing professional development programme.

New Academy coach Jon Curry has identified this as an important part of the development of the young talent in the area, commenting: â00I have experience from both sides of the fence here and I know there are many quality coaches in our area who are successful at what they do in life but do not have the time to research and develop their coaching.

â00What we are striving for is a long term coach development scheme that encompasses all aspects of our game and something that will produce concrete results in improving the already high standard of the young players we produce. This must be seen in terms of not only an improvement for the relatively small numbers that make it into our EPDG and Academy set ups but the raising of the general level throughout our area.â0

Although the sessions are free for participants the club will require a guarantee of attendance to ensure the courseâ00s continuation and a minimum of two out of the three sessions attended to qualify for the award.

Recruitment and development manager Dusty Hare says that it was important for the Saints to be helping improve rugby standards across the region.

â00This Community Coaching Award is the next step in developing our relationships with clubs across the East Midlands and Eastern Counties,â0 he said. â00We have a strong knowledge base here at the Saints and want to give something back to the clubs which support us through coming to watch games or recommending their players to join the EPDG system.

â00It is in all of our interests to share this knowledge and best practice throughout our region, and if we can help develop and improve junior club rugby then it will be good for the region as a whole.â0
