Wednesday, March 15th will be another memorable evening in the 137-year story of Northampton Saints, with five former players being inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.
Induction is the rarest of accolades, with just a dozen individuals in the Hall of Fame at present, and those who attend the special celebration dinner to mark the event will be a part of history.
During the current season each former player on the 10-man long-list has been profiled in the Saints’ first team match programmes, which we have collated below. Just click on the person’s name to download the relevant profile.
GEOFF ALLEN Fly half who made 136 appearances between 1963 and 72, team secretary, club secretary, president and chief executive over 26 years
TEDDY COOK The club’s record try scorer, with 219 tries in 263 appearances on the wing between 1908 and 23, whose glittering career was only interrupted by World War I
JERRY GORDON Mr Saints for 36 years between 1929 and 1965, overseeing all aspects of the club’s operations as secretary and then president
PAUL GRAYSON The Saints’ record points scorer, with 2,786 from 259 appearances, including the three penalties which won the 2000 Heineken Cup. Also a British Lion in 1997 and a member of England’s Rugby World Cup winning squad in 2003
ROGER HORWOOD Over 200 appearances in the front row across 17 seasons, but who organised the events which enabled the club to finance the purchase of Franklin’s Gardens. Also part of the 1988 consortium which transformed the Saints
PAT LAM The captain who lifted the Heineken Cup in 2000, who in three seasons brought a winning culture to Franklin’s Gardens culminating in that memorable May afternoon
BUDGE POUNTNEY Leading from the front for club and country, making 215 appearances and captaining Scotland between 2000 and 2002
WAYNE SHELFORD The All Blacks legend who became the on-field catalyst that took the Saints to the verge of glory in the early-1990s
BOB TAYLOR One of the best flankers of his generation, with 313 Saints appearances, 16 England caps and four British and Irish Lions tests on the 1968 tour of South Africa
BILLY WESTON Seventh on the all-time appearance list with 390, and a third of his 15 seasons spent as captain. First choice flanker for England for five years and a member of the first East Midlands team to win the County Championship
